On Saturday, July 28, I was able to do something really cool, and really fun! I was able to cook and share my passions with the people of Coldwater, MI at The Corner Farmers' Market! The market was quaint and homey, but busy. Local musicians performed in the background for an extra enjoyable experience. Buying options ranged from fresh produce to local meat, to beautiful bushes and trees, to local maple syrup and honey. With more than 500 market guests attending the market on Saturday, I was able to chat and share information and stories with locals, and summer guests - many from Chicago. I was pleased to find that a lot of people knew about the paleo lifestyle. Several found a common interest with favorite paleo bloggers, and we chatted about food favorites, recipes, and techniques. I have to thank Courtney Dirschell, marketing guru and farmers' market volunteer/coordinator, for reaching out to me. She found me on social media, and asked me to do a cooking demo after watching my cooking videos with Greener Grass Farms. I also have to thank Val Albright from the MSU Extension office for helping me set up my work space, and for dealing with permits and the Health Department. Thank you ladies for an awesome experience! I decided to create a taco salad "bite". I used local beef from Butternut Ridge Farm, and seasoned the beef with my own taco seasoning. I bought local tomatoes from Stutzman produce for pico de gallo, lettuce and jalapenos from Farmer D, and candy onions from the Farmer's Daughters. I received a lot of great feedback, and I'm excited to share that I'll be back at the market on Saturday, August 18. I hope you can join me!
I also have to thank my dear friend, Jen, owner of Luna Dulce Photography, for stopping by the market and taking these fun, unexpected photos.
